Teaching young children

In my major, I usually learned how to teach middle or high school students. Yesterday, however, I was asked how to teach English for young learners. I was embarrassed because I haven’t thought of that much. So I tried to think about that issue. Nowadays many children start to learn English by phonics, while I don’t have experiences of learning phonics when I was young. Phonics is to know the separated sounds of spoken words. So if children know phonics, they can pronounce many words. Of course, there are lots of advantages. But, I think it is not so perfect way to start English. There are too many exceptions of the words pronunciation. And Children can be bored at learning many phonics rules. I think it is much better for young learners to start English with funny songs, or activities that they can feel like play. This can make children feel interested of English. Despite my opinion, I know lots of my cousins are learning phonics suggested by my aunts. In conclusion, I believe that appropriate phonics learning can be helpful, but too much focus on the phonics can lower their good feelings at English.
