오늘은 ‘marry/get married/be married’의 차이점에 대해서 알아보도록 하겠습니다.
먼저 ‘marry’가 바르게 쓰인 표현들을 보겠습니다
E.g1) I want to marry you if you are willing to marry me.

*포인트 설명(1)
‘marry’는 타동사(transitive verb)이기 때문에 목적어를 가질 때 절대로 어떠한 전치사도 오지 않는다. ‘with나 ‘to’를 쓰는 경우가 많다.

그렇기 때문에 Problem sentence A는
Corrected as..
Pitt wants to marry a rich woman.

그렇다면 ‘marry’가 목적어를 가지지 않는 자동사로 사용되었을 경우를 알아볼까요?
먼저 예문부터 보겠습니다.

e.g2)Ga-eul married just after she left Pitt.
e.g3)My parents want me to marry this year, but I don’t want to marry until I have finished my education.

위의 두 예문은 ‘marry’가 자동사로 사용된 경우입니다. 문법적으로도 완벽하며 표현상으로도 아주 자연스럽습니다. 그렇지만!!

이런 경우(목적어가 없는 경우)에는 ‘get married’라는 표현이 더 많이 사용되는 경향이 있다.

‘lose my weight’은 잘못된 표현입니다. ‘lose와 weight’사이에는 소유격을 사용하지 않습니다. 그냥 ‘lose weight’과 같은 표현을 사용하시는 것이 옳습니다

Problem sentence B를 보겠습니다.
My parents got married with each other in 1942.

이 문장은 ‘포인트 설명(2)’와 더불어 알아두어야 할 것이 있습니다.

부모님은 ‘each other’가 결혼 했다는 것은 명백한 사실이기 때문에 언급할 필요가 없다.

그렇기 때문에 이 문장에서는 ‘each other’가 없어져야 하며, 포인트(1)에 의해 전치사 ‘with’도 없어져야 합니다. 그렇게 된다면
‘목적어가 없는 경우에는 ‘got married’가 선호된다.’라는 포인트와 맞아 떨어지나요?^^
