Lesson 5. The Internet: A New Pandora's Box?

Friday, June 13th, Sunny

Last week, I broke a mirror in the classroom which cleaning it up. Nobody saw me breaking it. I was too afraid to say anything about it. A few days later, I happened to read a false story about Yumi on our class homepage. The story said it was Yumi who broke the mirror.
Today, another false story appeared. It said Yumi slept in class because she spent many nights in front of a movie star's house. As far as I know, Yumi is always tired of helping her sick mother. Who wrote such total lies, I wonder?
Now I can see why Yumi has been having lunch alone and crying during the lunch break. I can't help feeling sorry for Yumi. Tomorrow morning, I'll tell the truth about Yumi and my mistake to my classmates. Yumi, I'm really sorry!

Wednesday, June 18th, Fine

I couldn't eat dinner well. I couldn't face Insu because he was still crying over his lost money. I wonder if Mo,m and Dad know what I did. Why did I do it? Why did I steal my brother's money? Was it just because of a new Internet game? Only for 5,000 won?
I wanted to go to a "PC-room" to play games with my friends on the Internet, but I was out of money. I was dying to go play games, and I saw Insu's money on his desk. I couldn't help taking it.
I felt ashamed of myself after three hours of playing games with his money. When I came home late at night, Insu was looking all over the house for his money.
It's after one a.m. I can't possibly sleep. I'm really sorry for what I have done. I want to tell the truth to my parents and Insu as soon as they wake up. From now on, I will never do such a mean thing again.

lesson 4. Are you left-handed or right-handed?

Left-handed people like me often feel uncomfortable in our lives. I am not comfortable using "regular" scissors which are made for right-handed people. What's worse is that I am not allowed to use my left hand. I'm scolded for not eating or writing with my right hand like other kids. On New Year's Day, I had a great time eating with my relatives. But the trouble was that I was eating with my left hand. I was scolded for that by my gradfather.

They say nine out of ten people are right-handed in the world. Many countries have been ruled by right-handed culture, and the right hand has been favored. Thereforem left-handed people have not been welcomed and have felt uncomfortable in their lives. This is especially strong in Korea where only about 5% of the whole population is left handed.

What determines right-handedness or left-handedness? It is only determined by which side of the brain is more in control. A person becomes left-handed if the right side of the brain is more in control, and right-handed if the left side of the brain is more in control. As you know, there are many more right-handed people than left-handed people. However, left-handed people are not less intelligent than right-handed people. As evidence, famous people such as Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Issac Newton, Ludwig van Beethoven, Pablo Picassom and Winston Churchill were all left-handed.

Look at your two hands. They are of the same shape. Of the two handsm some people use their right hands more, and others use their left hands more. I believe it's not important which hand you use. What's more important is what you do with the hand. Your mother uses her hand to feel your temperature when you have a cold. Your friend uses a hand to hand over a handkerchief when you cry. Your teacher uses a hand to pat you on the back. Does it matter whether these hands are the left or the right? I don't think so. Left-handedness should be accepted as natural. We should be thoughtful of the left-handed in our everyday lives.

Many great people overcome their difficulties. They say, "If you change the way you think, you can make it." Let`s think about why this is true.
Our thoughts usaually repeat ⓗthem. Repeated thoughts lead to repeated ( C ). Our repeated thoughts and ( C ) become our habits. ③Once we get into a habit, it is not easy for us to get rid of it. It becomes our master and determines what kind of person we will be. Therefore, our positive thinking will lead us to success in life. On the other hand, negative thinking will lead to failure. So ( D ) we really need is positive thinking. Now it`s up to us ⓘwhether to think positively and not.
