Week5. Reading

★Bottom-up Approach
:bottom-up processes are those that take in stimuli from the outside world.
focus on the specific and detail information like grammar and vocabulary, line by line.
when exam period, and read important text like TBP or PLLT
★Top-down Approach
:using background knowledge, readers can undertand the meaning of the text.
When we have to read 많은 양의 책을 한정된 시간내에 읽어야 할때,
카툰 같은 거 읽을 때,
신문읽을 때 배경지식 사용해서 조금읽어도 무슨 얘기인지 알수있음.
★Interactive Approach
: Two approaches are used together when we are reading.
Ususally students in middle or high school in Korea use more bottom-up approach.

★Intensive reading (정독)
:This is similar to bottom-up approach.
-qualitiy of understanding
ex)in high school- because of test preparation
textbooks or 문제집(workbooks?)
-more challenging texts than extensive reading texts.
-reading accuracies are developed

(problem)
-students can feel bored. They can't get opportunities to get culture-embeded, and interesting text.

★Extensive reading (다독)
when we read novels, we don't have to understand all of the details in that books.
So we can enjoy it.
:THis is similar to top-down approach.
-quantities (read much as possible, fluency will be developed)
-for fun & knowledge-building
-novels, comicbooks, magazines, internet articles and other authentic materials.
-should be easy so you can read a lot than intensive reading texts.
(problem)-accuracy
