두 개의 문장 모두 even though, even if 우리가 토익을 공부하면서도 자주 접할 수 있습니다.
회화에서도 단골표현이죠.^^
많은 영어 학습자들 및 사용자(영어를 모국어로 사용하지 않는)들이 ‘비록~일지라도’ 라고 해석하며 구분을 두지 않으며 사용하는 경우가 많습니다. 하지만 이 두 가지 표현에는 극명한 차이점이 있습니다.

그것이 무엇인지 간단하고 명료하게 정리하겠습니다.

*포인트
even though
실제로 존재하는 사실(FACTS)을 나타내는 절을 이끈다.
단순한 진술(simple declarative)의 절이 뒤따른다.
even if
실제로 존재하지 않는 가설에 근거한(HYPOTHETICAL)
상황, 미래의 상황을 나타내는 절을 이끈다.
조건절(법)(conditional sentence)을 나타내는 절이 뒤따른다.

If we play tennis, I will win
If we played tennis, I would win.
If we had played tennis, I would have won.

먼저 Problems sentence A를 살펴보겠습니다.

'니가 사람들의 존경심을 잃어버린다해도 그래도 난 여전히 너의 친구야'
라는 문장입니다. 해석에서는 가정을 하는 상황이므로 '존경심을 잃어버릴지라도'라고
해석이 되지만 현실은 '친구가 사람들의 존경을 잃지 않은 상황'입니다.

다시 말해서 존재하지 않는 사실을 가정을 하는 것이죠.
그렇기 때문에 ‘even though’가 아닌 ‘even if’의 사용이 올바른 경우였습니다.

Problem sentence B도 보겠습니다.

‘한국이 심각한 경제적 문제에 겪고 있다’라는 실제로 존재하는 사실(FACTS)입니다.
그렇게 때문에 ‘even if’가 아닌 ‘even though’의 사용이 올바른 경우였습니다.

*추가설명
even though와 even if가 이끄는 절이 문장 뒤에 위치 할 수도 있다.
(주절과의 위치 변동이 가능)
(NOTE: 이 경우 콤마를 쓰지 않는다.)


두 개의 문장의 차이점을 확실이 잡아내셨으리라 믿고 올바른 표현법을 사용하여 고쳐 보겠습니다.
